Corndogorama: A. Armada

For A. Armada, the decision to write songs without lyrics seems like a bold move. Especially for a band used to playing in a bar or club atmosphere, people seem to identify better with a frontman or frontwoman with undeniable stage presence.  People can be turned off by instrumental bands the same way American movie audiences are turned off by foreign movies with subtitles.

However A. Armada crafted a near seamless set in a very intimate environment.  Not only was their presence felt, but an atmosphere was created, a connection was made.  I felt as if they had invited me into their living room, or vice versa.  Each band member seemed to be turned in upon themselves, silently encouraging one another, and I also liked how the drummer wasn’t pushed away in a dark corner, but rather playing in front with the guitars.  The focus seemed to shift occasionally from one instrument to the next, while the anthemic music swelled.

While A. Armada didn’t seem to engage the audience in other ways than their music, it seems that would be impossible as they were just as immersed in the music as the rest of the room was.
