Pony Pants

Electro Metal Punk? Seriously? How can I explain my surprise when I walk into the Drunken Unicorn and set eyes upon this crazy mix drink band of all mix drink bands? Will I continue making every sentence in the rest of this post a question? Is there a better way for me to relate how confusingly good this is? Perhaps could I at least stay on topic and make references about the music rather than rambling and trying to be cute?

Pony pants will you be my Valentine? Whats that? I would have to be the Valentine of three dudes as well as Emily the electro punk torch bearer of 2008 ? Two who play Metal guitars brought to earth by Gibson SGs and a third dude who alternates between a bass and a third snarling guitar? Maybe I should just stick to blogging?

Why is this Post so late? Could it be because I was listening to the Fives ep I picked up at the concert? Could I I’m still in shock that Genghis Tron remix of Baby got Backwards hasn’t been in my musical vocabulary for ages? Do you think they would mind if I posted that remix along with another barn burner for you?

Radiohead & Amplive

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Ok so it’s been well documented by now how much Radiohead like their fans. They do things all the time to say thank you and as expected we adore them for it. So this Amplive cat said I’m going to remix all these songs and release them. Radiohead said hold it buddy but not why you would have expected, just so they could make sure that dude didn’t take a bunch of the lyrics and put anti Romanian propaganda or something silly like that. So it seems like they heard and approved so we get.

Ratatat Remixes Volume 2

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

So i’ve been listening to Ratatat’s second album “Classics” for a while now and really have enjoyed it, so when I started to read that there was another remix record I was moderately excited. Then I read that it was free and I knew I had to share it with you :)

How cool is that.

Die! Die! Die!

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

You guys remember Noise Rock? Yeah it was a really cool period in music, and it was an ethic just like Punk was originally. Like Punk, Noise Rock was always more interested in what you were thinking than what you were wearing, and an even debate can be had how long this lesser talked about genre has been around. I like the willingness to show how human they are, But were the guys from Die! Die! Die! 10 years too late to bloom with the bandwagon likes of Unwound, Polvo, and Shellac? Maybe not. Remember that this is the 21st Century and we don’t do as much “out with the old and in with the new” as much as we just make a little more room in our hearts for some different sounds.

Promises Promises is a really cool record and was recorded in The Walkmen’s Studio in New York called Marcata. And I’m surprised that this record makes regaining that late 90s noise rock sound such second nature. I haven’t heard a record like this since Houston Based The Kants.

Oh wow… this is just… oh wow. When can we see a tour?

See the thing is that Swedes make everyone feel unhip. The old people know the difference between Jungle and Trance. The Children don’t watch Sesame street they get taught by Debbie Harry. USA loses to Sweden every year…

Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox releases new Atlas Sound EP

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

bradfordcox

Now that Pitchfork has stopped constantly filating Atlanta band Deerhunter due to their extended hiatus we’re all looking towards Bradford Cox’s solo incarnation Atlas Sound to bring us our daily dose of psychedelic “ambient punk.”

Yesterday Bradford released Atlas Sound’s newest EP entitled Orange Ohms Glow through Deerhunter’s myspace blog. As with a lot of solo projects Bradford isn’t inhibited or pulled into check by the other sonic influences of his band mates. It doesn’t make for a lot of structure, but the aural palette here is even wider than on Cryptograms

This EP precedes the band’s eventual debut tentatively titled Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel. I can only hope that the stand out track Activation is included on that LP.

Howlies

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Ok so this isn’t a joke, fabrication, embellishment or altered falsehood. I went out to have a couple drinks with my good friend last night and we sit down with a couple guys I didn’t know. I introduced myself and they told me that they were in a band called Howlies. I listened to the explanation of their sound explained in turn the blog and podcast here, we exchanged information. No Biggie.

Then I wake up this morning and see that they’ve already e-mailed me and invited me out to a show. Understand that just last night I had to defend my critic status to Adam who thought that I may be becoming too rooted in unique music to recognize good music. So I click on the link and start listening and I just can’t stop. I can’t believe that I didn’t hear this before! I can’t believe that EVERYONE isn’t talking about this! I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT THESE DUDES ARE MY FRIENDS OMGHSGLHUALUBGALUHLAGLUH4LHALCUH4LTHLHSL4UH4LCSH49AH93PATAHBGK.

If you have a good bone of taste in your body you will Download (or stream by clicking on) these songs. Importance - Essential. It’s as if The Black Lips made a soundtrack for Quentin Tarantino.
